Classroom Management

Welcome to Mrs Bunker’s behavior expectations! These expectations exist so you can do your best in my class and make the most progress. We want to be able to do our best for the Lord in our music and worship, and so we need to focus in class so we can be outstanding for Him.

All classes will have a weekly scripture reading and prayer.

Each class will get a behavior/participation grade out of 10. Behavior/participation in both class and performance settings makes 100% of your grade in grades K-4, and 60% of your grade in grades 4 - 8, with the remaining 40% being based on assessments and theory assignments. You will get full credit for your behavior and participation each class by following these steps:

  • 1, Always bring a pencil and a small ring binder
  • 2, Do not talk in class
  • 3, Do not exhibit any other distracting behavior
  • 4, Do not eat in class
  • 5, Do not bring items such as toys or other items that may distract you in class
  • 6, Always bring all of your music
  • 7, Always bring your instrument (beginning and advanced band students)
  • 8, Always follow instructions
  • 9, Always exhibit respectful behavior towards the teacher and your peers
  • 10, Do not run during class
  • 11, Be on time!
  • 12, No cell phones!
  • 13, No physical attacks towards others
  • 14, No name calling, foul language or bullying

For grades 1 - 4 we will follow a card warning system. On the first offence, an amber lolly stick will be given to a student. This signals a first warning and has a picture of a somber face' written on it. It symbolizes the question, 'will you choose to improve your behavior?'. If a student does choose to improve his or her behavior then the amber lolly stick card will be taken away and no points will be removed. The student can then start to work towards a purple lolly stick. If the student chooses to continue to engage in bad behavior then the amber lolly stick will be removed and a red lolly stick with the word 'Stop!' will be given. A red 'Stop!' card means that points will be removed for behavior for that class and the homeroom teacher and/or administration and/or parents will be called. For certain behaviors such as #13 and 14 a red 'Stop!' card will be immediately given and steps will be taken to inform the appropriate parties.

Amazing behavior will be awarded with a purple lolly stick and a sticker! The number of purple happy face lolly sticks that are awarded in a class will translate into star stickers on the class reward chart (2 purple happy face lolly sticks = 1 star) and the class with the most stars by the end of the trimester wins a prize!! Stars can also be awarded to the whole class for whole class excellence when each student is on task and trying their hardest.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES:

If you have an unexcused absence from school and miss my class, you will receive a 0 for that day. K-4 classes only meet with me once a week so is vital you attend! If you have an unexcused absence on an assessment day you will not be allowed to make up that grade and will be given a 0. There are limited assessments each year and so please try to make sure you’re present when there’s a test. I will always give advance notice as to the testing schedule and they will be posted on my Wiki page and on the Google calender. If you are absent for 0 period advanced orchestra but then attend school that day, then you will receive a 0 for that day's grade with no chance to make up with the exception to a written message from the parents/guardian.

EXCUSED ABSENCES:

If you are excused from school for the day and miss my class, your grade will be excused for the day. If you miss a test and your absence is excused then you will be allowed to make the test up when you return.

HALL PASSES

Will NOT be approved during the first or last 10 minutes of the class nor during direct instruction unless in case of an emergency. The remainder of time is at teacher’s discretion.

YOUR GRADE BREAKDOWN IS AS FOLLOWS:

Grades K - 4: 100% Behavior and Participation

Grades 5 - 8: 60: Behavior and partication, 20% Assessments and 20% Theory Assignments

Any and all absences from a planned extra rehearsal or concert must be excused with a letter from your parent/guardian or you will receive a 0 for that performance score with no chance for make up. We only have limited numbers of performances each year and so it is vital that absences are excused if you’re unable to attend.

If you have an excused absence from any extra rehearsals or concerts then you will have to make the grade up with a written assignment at teacher’s discretion.

All concert attire must be worn where specified or you will have a reduced grade for that performance.
